Episode 2: Can cancer patients go on international travel?

It’s always a challenge for cancer patients to travel around. However, travel makes me feel alive. The more travel I do, the more beauty I see, the more GRATEFUL I am. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to travel more. In the following video clip, I show the three things I’ll do before I travel. My husband and I were in San Diego at Christmas 2022.

Episode 1: Prelude of My Cancer Journey

Today, I launched a video collection about my lung cancer journey, including cancer diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. I do it for three reasons: 1) If you are a cancer patient, let’s share this life-changing experience so we don’t feel alone; 2) From my experience, people who are not affected by cancer don’t know how to deal with, even talk to cancer patients, and 3) according to the American Cancer Society, in America, between every two adults, one experiences cancer in his/her adult life. In Canada, between every five adults, two suffer from cancer. So, let’s talk about cancer.

My first video will tell you why you should see it and what can be expected from my video collections. You can see my video clip on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwf-i5S2JlyBy-S2ZWZHZWQ, Episode 1.

My Five-Year Cancer Advocacy Journey in Patient Research Advocacy

I wrote two-part articles summarizing my 5-years cancer advocacy journey. The first part concerns my patient advocacy experience (https://prevailingwithlungcancer.blog/2023/06/30/my-five-year-cancer-patient-advocacy-journey-part-1/), and the following is patient research advocacy. I finally found myself after so much tortuousness, but I don’t regret that. As a matter of fact, I enjoy every bit of it. https://lungcancer.net/living/research-advocacy-journey

Unforgetable Summer with My LC Friends

I have had a wonderful time with my local lung cancer friends this summer. We went to a comedy club to have Guardian Angel Comedy Evening for CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. We raised more than $4,000 that evening. We also had a party at my friend’s house to celebrate our survivorships and, more importantly, our friendships.

This summer is a happy summer, full of laughs and good food.

At Rumor’s Comedy Club for fundraising

My friend organized a fundraising event at the Rumor’s Restaurant & Comedy Club. We had dinner, a comedy performance and unstoppable laughing. In the end, we raised $4,000 for the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. This is a great way to raise funds for cancer.

At a Pool party to celebrate us

We had a pool party on a gorgeous afternoon with food, drinks, chat and a lot of laughs. One of my friends has the talent of being a comedian, and we never stop laughing at his jokes.

Attending CAPO2023 in Montreal

The 38th annual CAPO conference occurred in beautiful Montreal, Canada, from June 20 to 23. CAPO is the Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology. The conference included a broad cadre of health and social service professionals, community cancer support organizations, peer support advocates, researchers, end-user decision-makers, patient representatives and caregivers. The conference theme is “Co-designing Psychosocial Oncology: Optimizing Outcomes for All.” I’m a CAPO Board Member, and here is my experience in first-time attending the CAPO2023.

Organizing the conference (I was involved in the organizing committee and reviewing the abstracts of the CAPO conference. I have also presented an abstract on Canadian lung cancer coping with fear and anxiety about cancer recurrence. The responses from the psychosocial oncologists were excellent.)

Sightseeing (I’ve been absolutely captivated by Montreal’s stunning sights! It’s been an incredible experience sightseeing.)

Food in Montreal (Looking for some delicious eats in Montreal? This city is a foodie’s paradise, with a diverse range of culinary options to satisfy any craving.)

My Five-Year Cancer Patient Advocacy Journey: Part 1

I have been a lung cancer survivor for 8 years in June 2023 and a cancer advocate for 5 years. When I started advocacy, I had no idea how to advocate and wished the experienced advocates could share some experiences. Now I’m an experienced advocate, and here are some of my experiences. Hopefully, it can be of some help. https://lungcancer.net/living/patient-advocacy-journey
